Carl founded SMC with his son, Craig, in 2001 to help companies manage business risk and protect their assets through expert risk consulting and insurance services. Carl has over 40 years of experience in the financial services industry with specialization in risk management and property and casualty insurance program management and design.
Over the course of his career he has developed effective solutions for enterprises ranging from Fortune 100 companies to privately held companies, solving problems and designing programs across multiple industries, including financial institutions, energy, real estate, manufacturing, construction, food, retail, technology, and health care.
Carl began his career with a major stock insurance company where he managed national account underwriting operations in New York and Texas. In 1977 he joined a brokerage in Houston and was admitted to partnership the following year. In 1985 the firm sold to Emett & Chandler, a Los Angeles based public broker, and he was named Executive Vice President of the San Francisco office. He served in that capacity through several acquisitions until he left Aon Risk services to join a large regional firm as president of risk management services.
Carl is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), has served on numerous industry committees and organization boards. He was a faculty member of the Rochester Business Institute (RBI) and the Bryant and Stratton Business school. He also served as an instructor for the Texas Association of Insurance agents.
